As parents, we often struggle with what toys to buy for our children and grandchildren.

Those toys they keep in the house are often broken nearly as soon as we buy them -- no matter what we pay for them. It only took our kids two months to ruin the Guitar Hero we purchased for Christmas one year. They scratched up the discs and lost the wireless plug-in.

On the other hand, the outside toys and games provided at the local fair and neighborhood playgrounds always seem to capture the hearts and minds of children of all ages.

A few years ago, we took a cue from how much our children enjoy the inflatable playgrounds at local fairs and school events.

We purchased an inflatable bounce-around for the kids, and later, an above-ground swimming pool.

Within days, our kids were hosting all of the other children in the neighborhood. Daily, our back yard was filled with the gleeful shrieks of happy children.

We had the inflatable bounce around for 4 years, until the motor finally burned up. So we replaced it quickly.

We still have the swimming pool 5 years later.

The wood-framed swing set, slide, and jungle gym are built sturdy enough that it should survive until our kids have children of their own.

Our family's back yard playground gets better and better with each passing year, as we can add new equipment to our backyard playground.
